Jumping July

July was another crazy month for us. As well as car shows we flew in a light aeroplane over Bedford, attended the Bedford River Festival and the RAF 100 flyover in London. I'm not mentioning the weather for each event  as it was just glorious nearly every day.

OMC American Theme Night Thursday 5th July

This annual event organised by Dave attracted around 300 bikes and 70 cars plus a lot of public spectators from the village. Paul and Andy Harrison started their engines for the crowd and everyone else had a nice relaxed evening.

Rally of the Giants Blenheim Palace Sunday 8th July 2019

At just over an hour away through the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside we arrived at the impressive entrance to Blenheim Palace (the birthplace of Winston Churchill) nice and early and found a good spot to park. We haven't been to this show before. It was mostly for classic cars but these days Hot Rods are made welcome at almost every show and this was no exception. We didn't just spend the day sitting though. We toured the Palace gardens on a "train" with our driver Tarquin (actually his name was Kevin but that didn't sound regal enough) . The grounds are vast and most of the features are quite a distance apart so this was an ideal way to see them, including the Cascades, Rose Garden and Folly. Afterwards we went with the Stapletons to a really nice pub for an excellent meal but I forget where it is.

Dragstalgia - Santa Pod Sunday 15th July

I didn't go to this event but Dave took the Hot Rod on the Sunday where he met up with all the usual suspects from the NSRA and  I can only find one photo taken by who knows?

I think this photo is from Dragstalgia but it could be something else!

Gt Yarmouth Tuesday 17th July

Taking full advantage of the continued great weather and our flexibility we took off to Yarmouth for an overnight stay at Barnard Guest House for a relaxed couple of days there and at Gorleston upon sea combining our usual walks, fish and chips and a few beers in the sunshine.

Classics on the Common Harpenden Wednesday 25th July
This was the 25th Anniversary. Organised by the Rotary Club this is a big fund raiser for local charities. Most of the money comes from the participants with a minimum donation of £15 and the entrance tickets  get taken up very quickly. We had tickets the last two years but couldn't go so this year we actually got there and even paid extra for an early bird ticket so that we didn't have spend too much time queueing to get in. It was packed both with cars and people but we will not be doing this event again. We were crammed in like sardines so that had we wanted to leave we couldn't so we were there for at least 8 hours. This wasn't a problem for us as we had intended to spend the day chilling anyway. But with the cars so close together and so many of the public looking around we felt it wasn't fair on the car owners and the risk of damage to the cars was high.

Ball Colegrave Banbury Thursday 26th July 2018

This has become an annual pilgrimage for Dave and me, Shirley and Paul, Janet and Andy. We meet up for a nice meal at The Pickled Ploughman in Banbury and then cruise to Ball Colegrave to see Tim Sticking's latest floral creations. It's always a fabulous evening and we often win lovely floral raffle prizes too.
