Flaming June

Earl's Barton Classic Car Meet

We had some incredible weather in June and July, day after day of high temperatures and blue skies. As part of my 60 list I wanted to take the Beetle to a car show and so on June 6th Dave drove the Hot Rod and I drove the Beetle over to Earl's Barton for their monthly evening get together. It isn't really ready for showing as the bodywork is in a poor state and even has a couple of dents in it but it's the thought that counts and to be honest at this show anything goes even your 65 plate BMW if you wish to show it off. I even managed to drive the 20 miles each way without breaking down which was a relief.

Hot Rod Hop 8th - 10th June

This was the Cannibal Club's first Hot Rod event at Scald End Farm, Thurleigh which is only three miles away from here. It was a nice little weekend show reminiscent of events from back in the 80's with a casual feel about it, a bit of entertainment and a few silly games. We popped over every day and Paul and Zoe brought their mini which was to be their last official outing in it before they sold it.

Week in The New Forest see separate post.

Embankment Monthly Meet 24th June

Dave went to a few of these meeting by Bedford river during the season and I popped along occasionally.

Summer Nationals Santa Pod 30th June - July 1st

After some work taking the gearbox out and putting it back in amongst other things it was back to Santa pod where the track was coming along nicely and making for some good times. Paul and the team had to battle with the car having issues all weekend, even losing all gears on the warm up before round one eliminations, luckily a quick fix. He qualified 5th & 6th in Pro ET & super pro and made it through a couple of rounds in both. Overall though the dragster was consistent with only .00010 of a second & 0.03 mph between both my super pro runs. Once again the PB  was lowered to 8.89 @148mph with still more to come.
