The lull before the storm Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th June 2015

Week commencing 22nd June was a quiet one Hot Rod wise. For one reason or another we didn’t take it out during the week. The weekend was the Summer Nationals at Santa Pod. Dave could have taken the car up on Saturday but it wasn’t practical with all the stuff we needed to cart up there and then on Sunday the weather was poor until the afternoon. At least Dave was able to go to the Embankment for the monthly Cruise in the evening where he met up with a few other Hot Rodders and John Leydon in his beach buggy.

Racing wise, the dragster went in a straight line, Paul qualified second and it was a beautiful day so Saturday was one of those few perfect days for racing, both for competitors and spectators alike. Sunday, after the all too predictable race day morning rain had gone, Paul was knocked out in the first round of eliminations by Paul Watson who deservedly went on to win the event. Super Comp is a tough class to compete in but Paul enjoys it for the heads up racing, pro tree and the camaraderie within the class.

A bit of fame in this month’s Custom Car. We got a mention and a photo in the spread about Billing as did our friends and “family” The Stapletons. The caption reads “Built in Colorado by Galen Meeker, driven 32000 miles all over America by Dave and Lesley Brown and now home with them in England, this @31 Ford Phaeton was actually built from a four door sedan. It’s a fine piece of work.”
