The End of an Era

Main Event 24th - 27th May 2019

Lying in third place, only 120 points behind the leader, Paul's challenge to retain his title was in good shape going into this meeting. However he got a call from Santa Pod Raceway a few days before the event offering him the chance to drive the two seater dragster "Thrill Ride". We still took Paul's dragster and trailer and got the car scrutineered thinking he may get the opportunity to a least do one qualifier.

On Thursday Paul acquitted himself extremely well in the two seater with and with out passengers and he was deemed good to go so spent the rest of the weekend taking excited passengers up the track, 14 in all. There wasn't enough time for him to to take part in qualifying so for the team at least, the season is over. When we got the call from Paul to say he wouldn't have time to qualify it was quite an emotional moment for Dave and I coming on the back of the sad news that morning that his brother Les had passed away. However it was the right thing for Paul to do. We've been doing this for nine years now and Dave and I had already chosen a couple of other things to do on other race weekends, Paul has achieved everything he can possibly achieve so far (apart from a Pro ET event win!) and so it's time to move on.
